April/May 2020 - Town officials begin discussing the Brattleboro Rental Housing ordinance and proactively addressing rental housing in Bellows Falls.
Summer 2020 - Town officials collaborate with the Bellows Falls Village Trustees on a rental housing ordinance.
Fall 2020/Winter 2021 - The Bellows Falls Village Ordinance Committee and the Rockingham Planning Commission works on a draft ordinance.
Winter 2021/Spring 2021 - Town officials work closely with prominent landlords in the community and a series of revisions are made to balance compliance requirements between landlords and tenants.
Spring 2021 - A brochure is developed and mailed to all water/wastewater customers.
April 22, 2021 - The Rockingham Planning Commission, after working on the ordinance for 9 months, recommends approval of the draft ordinance.
Spring 2021 - The Village President and Town Planner hold a series of informal meetings to solicit people’s input.
TBD - The Bellows Falls Village Ordinance Committee recommends approval of the draft ordinance.
TBD - The Bellows Falls Village Trustees review and decide the adoption of the ordinance.
Rental Housing Coffee Meetings
Lightly attended. The meetings did result in minor changes to the ordinance to clarify the rental housing checklist and to standardize certain terms and other language with state statutes.
